Hmm, what should we do today? Well, let's go feed some roos and then hit the local art scene! After a fun trip to Lone Pine, (we can't seem to get enough of this place. It never gets old to feed marsupials!) we had a chance to visit the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) in downtown Brisbane. We took the train in. It was such a fun day.
At the GOMA, they have a children's section where it is all hands on for modern arts. Each week they have new crafts and projects going. This week was pixel art, designed on computers and then put up around the room on computer screens. Here's Parker's work: "Oaks, Park and Syd".
Here is Birdy's piece. Minecraft Totally Rocks! They thought this pixel art was pretty fun and cool to see your creation up around the halls of the gallery.
Oaks loved the 3D art craft. We made trees, birds and kangaroos. And since it was all about being "modern", we loved making our trees polka-dotted and our kangaroos bright yellow!
The gallery has some cool displays. This sand floor was interesting. The whole design was made from household items: spatualas, flip flops, toasters.... it was fun to try and recognize them.
This was called the Hope project. All the papers at the bottom are notes or pictures from people visiting the museum and wishing to give Hope to a loved one or someone that might need it. You write your thoughts or pictures down and leave it under the Hope Trees. It was fun and good for my kids to think of how important it is to always have hope, to never give up on things or people. We talked about how comforting it is to recognize there is someone who knows what is best and has endured all you are facing, He gives us so much hope-- and afterall isn't that what Faith is? The hope for things not seen which are true? I thought the display was really neat.
Here we are trying to figure out how this slideshow showing heaps of plastic bowls and dishes could be deemed worthy of a place at the Gallery of Modern Art. Oh modern art...it's always across the spectrum-- everything from Ahhh to huhhhh?
This was a fun shot of the city from the bridge that links Southbank to the art galleries. We love Brisbane!
Finished up the day with a quick trip to the man made beach at Southbank--just under the trellises. Then it was back on the train for 2 stops and home to Yeronga! These are some of the things I will miss the most when we leave. Such a great Saturday!
